Update on the outrageous hotel that was worth that lovely rant: it's probably the Savoy Hotel in Cologne. After thinking myself that it looks like Bill said "Köln" I asked one of my friends and she said that she thought it was likely to be the Savoy. I just tried to lip read and it could well be.

I haven't seen the youtube clips either, so I don't know. I watched the documentary with the English subtitles and came across a few things. Sometimes just little things that weren’t subtitled or some wording that was a bit differently. That’s all done with good reason. I mean first of all there is just so much time you can use for subtitles that people are supposed to being able to actually read… and we all know the speed the guys are talking with sometimes. ;D Also it makes more sense to English speakers to use different wording and not translate literally sometimes. What I don’t like is when the meaning gets lost or it was just not what the guys said. Call me fussy but the subtitles for the argument between Bill and Tom just bug me. Not all of it of course but some, especially the opening line: Tell somebody that it's loud! I just don’t get that line and where the use of “loud” comes from is beyond me. If you know, please explain it to me. Well, compare and decide for yourself what you make of the subtitles. Subtitles as on the DVD: Bill: Tell somebody that it's loud! Tom: I don't want to do it. I never said I would! Bill: Are you an idiot? It's about the band. I said yes, for the band. What? Now you think I'm gonna do it alone? Tom: Yeah, Bill. Why should I...? Are you crazy? Bill: Why is it for me?! You sick bastard! It's not for me. Tom: You agreed to it. It's... Bill: Are you an idiot? You want me to do it alone? Tom: Ask first, before you agree to things. What was said in German and literal translation: Bill: Dann sag’ doch wem Bescheid, dass der die bitte holt! (Then let someone know to get them please!) (Gosh Bill, I’m not gonna take care of this now! I didn’t promise it!) Bill: Sag’ mal, bist du bescheuert, oder was?! (Say, are you daft/braincracked, or what?! Ha ha, I just found braincracked as a translation and just had to include it. So funny. ) Tom stuttering. (I agreed to it, for the band! Do you think I’m gonna do that on my own now, or what?) (Yes Bill, I…. w-w-why should I dig up some pictures for you now? Are you round the bend? Another funny expression. It’s much shorter and easier to just use crazy.) Bill: Wieso denn für mich? Du kranke Sau! (But why for me? You sick sod/sow!) Tom: Du hast es zugesagt. (You agreed to it.) Bill: Es ist nicht für mich! (It’s not for me!) Tom: Bill, es ist fünf Minuten… (Bill, it’s five minutes…) (Say, are you daft/braincracked? If I agree to an interview, then I’ll do that by myself, too, or what?!) (Nope, you couldn’t agree to that without asking me.) What do you think? Here are some of the little things that weren’t subtitled. In Vienna, after they played the show and Tom talks about it, saying that it ran smoothly and Bill would be the only one not being satisfied. “… frog in his throat… Bill is the only one who’s unhappy. Das stimmt aber nicht. Das ist so… (But that’s not true. That’s like…) He just wants attention.” With this little addition he basically means that Bill wouldn’t have a reason to be unhappy, trying to convince him otherwise and to cheer him up… which is probably why he changes his approach to saying he would only want attention next. Bless. At one of the sound checks where Bill starts looking at his arms saying that he got bruises from the jacket again you can hear Gustav mocking him in the background saying: Ja ja. Nee Bill, is’ klar! Mmm. (Yes yes. Nope Bill, for sure! Mmm.) In the car when Bill is talking about having been to Hungary before with their parents and is trying to convince Tom of it. Tom: Nee, das hast du gestern schon beim Konzert erzählt. (Nope, you already said that at the concert yesterday.) I don’t remember that at all. An example for different wording: The bit about them playing table tennis and Bill talking about being the best and that most people would be against him because of it, he also jokingly says: Dieser Neid, da komm’ ich auch noch nicht mit so klar. (This envy, I still don’t come to grips with that.) The subtitles are: They’re jealous. I don’t get it.
