Maybe we could have like, competitions or something for new members. Like for the new members of a certain month to enter, and they have to post and stuff to be entered. That was a really jumbled idea and it came out making no sense whatsoever

Hey all if theres anyone that should be answering this question it should be me I join a new forum every day literally ok so about the plan for messaging new people. Tbh that wont work. The newbies will find out that someone is assigned to do it and wont feel welcomed because its like the person has to welcome them because its their job and not because they want too.
I'm not afraid to go on forums and just get started and tell people how i feel and not get intimidated by the people with large post counts, but alot of new people are so y'all should sound welcoming and nice in all your posts, especially people with large post counts so they know theres nothing to be afraid of and will start posting.
Also when a new person starts they wont know anyone and when they start posting, someone will post back but it will be in response to what someone else has said and will have ignored what the newbie has said. Which happens on all forums. So what should happen is maybe someone should be assigned to reply to all posts, especially new peoples, because new people just tend to get ignored until they have a few posts under their belt, and most newbies will have left by that point because they would of thought they are just getting ignored.
I'll post more here when I think of it because I know there are lots more ideas.

Ok I just thought of another one, it sort of ties in with my other one but alot of people on here are friends with each other and have private jokes and just generally enjoy each others company, so when a new person comes they will probably be put off becuase they wont really see the point in being here because they dont know where to fit cos everyone knows each other and they dont really see a point in them being there either because everyone else is doing fine without them so yeah try and sound welcoming to everyone when you post, and try and limit the ammount of posts you send directly to other people. I mean guess its better then having a forum where everyone hates each other, but it can be off-putting. Yeah I guess that did tie-in with my other one. Oh well.

Yeah, I think your idea is really good. Like, if we're posting, and we see a new person post, we should just put in our post hi to them or something. Just something nice so they know we know they re there, and they feel like they belong?

Yeah thats what I meant. And maybe compliment them on their sig or avatar or ask them questions about their screenname or something like that. And also on some forums they have a newbie board and not a thread so newbies can make a thread about themselves which i kindof think is a bit better because having a thread about yourself kindof makes a newbie feels special (wow that sounds stupid) because if you have one big newbie thread your message will just get lost along the way and forgotten about wheras it wouldnt be if it was a board. Also when newbies join and introduce themselves and other people say 'welcome' its nice but its a bit bog standard so i think maybe you should say other things like compliemtn them or ask them how they got into TH or something like that.

Ok i have another idea. moderators. most people come on forums in their leisure time and to come to a forum where its really strict and lots of authority they will just leave, because leisure time is where your meant to escape authority. so what i'm saying is moderators should be down their with the normal posters and contribute as well bcos most moderators only say something when they are locking a thread or something. i havnt really noticed it with these boards. but basicly mods nicer less rules less locking and moving topics, and it will attract new comers. btw i'm not having a go at these boards bcos i havnt noticed it so much but you get my drift.

Yeah, we should try and strike up a conversation with new members, welcome is just the same thing every time. And the conversations will always be different, since every new member will be different.
