Hello everyone,
This is a post about display names. We noticed recently that a lot of people are changing their display names on the forum. This is making the forum more difficult to read, it's confusing and as moderators we're finding it hard to not assume you are new members!
Please do not change your display names regularly and without good reason. Please pick a name and stick with it. Otherwise we will be forced to remove the option from your accounts.

We just ask you not to change your display names only for the sake of it or with the intention of changing them soon after again. Choose them with the intention of sticking with them because a display name is something other users associate you with and know you by. It's just less confusing if you stick with your names.
Also, on a personal note, changing your display names makes it harder for me to keep the meet up attendees list updated as I not only collect your real names but also display names (for practical reasons e.g. people share the same real names). ;D

Okay, myself and the admin team are going to be having a meeting about allowing the names of the band members in your display names. As you know, I have removed the option for allowing them straight up - Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav are not names that are allowed on this forum. Circumventing the rules by adding full stops, etc, does not change the principle of the rule.
More on this when we've had the meeting.
Usernames and display names are supposed to represent you. I don't know where this trend for using the boys names has come from, but it's not in the spirit of having a display name that represents you.

Eep. Okay.
The idea came up from a random MSN talk that ended up in being silly and being nicknamed a member of the band. (I think, I can't remember totally now. ><)
I'll change my name, then, sorry. -- Done.

It's ok! And by all means use them as nicknames. Put them in your sigs, add them to your location, I don't mind! I just want to keep this forum as clear and as friendly as possible and it's just hard going when you all start taking the names of the band. We get left with a feeling of not being able to get to know you because we don't have a name to associate you with. (Obviously we associate Gusti with, well, Gustav!)

I see what you mean about the associations, and how it could possible confuse someone who's not familiar with our forum into maybe thinking the band actually post and such on here. |
