Fine, if you decide to have an attitude about this; I won't argue.
It's actually not so much about asking permission rather about respecting the request of the mods/admins to stick to display names helping to run this forum smoothly. I don't know why this should be too much to ask.  We've discussed the whole issue in this very thread months ago already. I don't see why it should be unreasonable to ask for cooperation on this but maybe I'm just naive. ;D

I agree, sticking to one name tells you who is who. I've got confused a couple of times when people have changed their name thinking they were newbies, then realising who they were.

I will change but name back but I will not ask for permission to change my display name Aneira - this is not a decision you get to make. This is a forum with rules. They apply to everyone, including you. I'm not sure why you think the rules do not apply to you? You're posts in this thread are rude and disrespectful of not only the moderators, by disregarding our rules, but also your fellow forumers, by believing that you are above the rules that they uphold. From today no one will be permitted to change their display name. Offenders will be warned and their name will changed back. Anyone disregarding the rules after a warning will be banned. Claire |

I am not a horrible person as you have made me out to be, I respect that there has to be rules also. And if I am honest what you have just said about me has upset me, you don't know me so how can you make that judgement?

Exactly, nobody said you were mean, but the rules were, you're not allowed to change your display name, it's a rule, you have to follow the rules, and we're here to enforce them, remember when everyone started changing their display names? It got really confusing, if we let you change yours, then everyone would want to follow, and it'd start all over again.
It was disrespectful what you said on the forum, and we shouldn't have to put up with that.

EDIT// I MEAN THIS TOP PARA ABOUT THE QOUTE, THATS HOW SHE DISPLAYE DIT She was really sorry about it, but I talk to Aneira a LOT and I know by now that she doesnt mean stuff badly, but she finds it hard apologising too. She already explained to me she didnt mean it badly, she was just really stressed out and stuff was going on and she'd been having mood swings. So personally, I think that when she said: im changing my name to Aneira, that okay??? its her sillly way of saying sorry and she'll ask, cos thats what the question was for, she didnt even mean it sarky like or anything. She was over an over saying to me : I'm really sorry bout saying that, an I shouldnt have either. But she's really shy, an we ALL know she can be very shy. an sorry for telling them that even though you asked me not to tell anyone nin, but I just thought they should know your side of it too, cos if your too shy to actually come out with a tsraight apology, I just wanted to let them know what you had actually said an that you really were sorry. PLEASE DONT KILL ME  An please dont badger her about why she didnt come out straight an say it, cos shes goin through some stressy stuff, that she's only told me an no one else. |

None of the mods or admin are out to upset anyone, or make judgements about what kind of people they are. They uphold the forum rules, and make sure that the atmosphere here remains pleasant and friendly for everyone. Our personal opinions about individual members do not come into it - the rules are for everyone.
Aneira, I don't feel as though you were made out to be a horrible person. I'm really sorry if you feel that way. But in fairness, you did clearly state your refusal to obey a forum rule, so Claire was simply making it clear that isn't acceptable.
It was in no way a personal attack - anyone who had posted that comment would have recieved the exact same response.
Hopefully everyone can move on from this now. ;D

Since other people are now also involved, I would like to state that I didn't even ban Aneira from changing her display name. I asked her by PM that if it was really important to her, to ask in this thread. Although we have 'rules' here, myself and the mods are pretty flexible and if someone wants something we will do everything we can to accommodate them.
However, attitude and disrespect ruins that relationship and it means that we no longer want to bend over backwards for people. It makes us want to have strict rules to make our lives easier.
The point is Aneira, if you had posted in the thread saying: 'I hate my display name, I'd really rather go by my real name and here are the reasons why', we probably would have just gone ahead and changed it. But unfortunately you didn't, and in the process you upset the balance of the forum and the admins.
I'm sorry if you feel upset, however I say these things based on how you behave on the forum. I felt that you were way out of line in your posts in this thread, but this is over and done with now and we all need to move on.
Please, everyone, lets not make this issue worse.

Just so you guys know, I'm not here to bitch, spaz, whatever.
I've changed my display name to 'Mrs Snowy de Groot-Stark-Goi' because everyone calls me Snowy anyway - the bit I've kept the same - and I've just put in Melissa, Psymon and Dero's last names because A) I love Melissa, B) I worship Psymon and C) I'm fangirly over Dero.
I do plan to keep it this way, and I'm sorry if I seem like too much of a rebel to all of you, and to be honest, you can ban me if I keep breaking the rules, OK? I'm already a member of way too many forums.
