You have to be careful how trusting you are, there are people who say they are model scouts, and yes, they probably are from a modelling agency, but they always say to people, "Come down to the studio and we'll take some pictures and set up a portfolio" The thing is its a con, they take a few pictures and charge you like £500, they mostly want your money. Other than those, make sure you go to proper modelling sites, such as diesel models, or Ford, one that you know is legitimate as last thing you want is to get conned doing something you dream to do. Good luck doing it though, as long as you believe in yourself you'll be fine.

i LOVE americas next top model, and britains. so its something i'd possibly try out, just cos it looks so fun! i've had like professional photos done of me and they turned out really good but they were waaaaay too expensive to buy. like £75 or something for like an A5 picture :/ my mum said she wanted to send them off to an agency but noo. but yeah, i think if it actually came down to it, i'd like freak out and be way too shy.

I've never looked into it for myself, LOL.
But my friend recently went to Diesel for a shoot and it ended up costing over £1000 for the pictures!
Ok, they kept going on about how she'll make it back, but that's a lot of cash to find if you don't have it.
There was also a £150 'fine' if you didn't turn up for the shoot.

The modelling company ive got picked by have supplied models for MTV and Walt disney and kit kat, ETC and my photoshoot is free too and my mum talked to them over the phone too. we only need to pay £75 for them to print some cards or something like that...*shrug*

Jessy - be careful! If you have to pay any money up front, they are possibily not a legitimate modelling agency. Any real model scouts will not ask for any money at all, not even for a portfolio or model cards. The thing is, a model agency wants YOU to work for them. SO they invest in you by paying for portraits, etc, then they make their money back by getting you work. If they want money from you, what they're doing is making money off you without you actually getting any modelling jobs, then they won't have any incentive to get you jobs.
My brother's girlfriend is basically what I think of as when I think model. She looks like a girl off a catwalk. She's lovely. And she was scouted when she was shopping on Oxford St and followed it up and everything. In the end they wanted money from her and she said no. But her friends have paid out before. None of them are professional models, but they all have beautiful portfolios they have been made to pay a lot of money for.
Just make sure the company is reputable - do a lot of research, try to talk to people who have worked with them, etc.

What you need to do modeling is a portfolio, if you cant afford one (like I couldnt) then I would do as I did and offer yourself as a free model at your local collage for people that do photography, I ended up getting over 100 different photos for nothing, I didnt end up making a portfolio I did it just for fun, but its all you need to make one. Just make sure you do everything properly and its best if you know or atleast its a friend of a friend the person who does your photos. If not then just make sure its in a studio, public place and not around there house or something, if it feel dodgy get the hell out of there, but it went perfectly fine for me.
