How did you tour in the United States go ?
Bill: Actually, in the beginning, it’s good to come to a new country where there aren’t a lot of people who know us. We can walk around freely, which we did, obviously... But we came to this new country to change that! We want people to recognize us the next time! That’s been a real success, it worked really well, the concerts were great and we’re really happy!
France is one of the few countries where you do all of your concerts in German. Why?
Tom: In fact, in France, the difference is that we sing exclusively in German because we feel that the audience really likes those songs. So, we adapt to that! Other than that, we have to say that there’s always that same energy that characterizes the fans in all the countries. In that respect, there’s definitely an “equality” throughout. You come from Brussels, you’re in Paris… Today’s our fifth concert, so it’s going really, really well. You can’t say that each country has a “characteristic trait”… It’s each fan that is unique according to their personality.
Do you stress before the concerts ? Do you have rituals before getting on stage?
Tom: The only ritual is that Georg goes to do “big business” in the bathroom before going on stage! Other than that, we don’t have a particular ritual. Half an hour before the beginning of the concert, we all get together in a room and tell each other that we’re going to get nervous together… But that’s all.
Bill and Tom, you just finished your schooling. What does that mean?
Bill: Well, the first thing we did was burn and through away all our books! That’s something we’ve always dreamed of doing. We used to tell each other, ‘the day we finish, we’ll throw them all away!’
Tom: If we ever have to start again to try to take the Bac (I think that’s the university entrance exam), we’ll have to buy everything again.
Bill: But that, in any case, is no longer in our plans. Right now, we want to concentrate completely on the band. We’re super glad that all that shit is finally done... It was a real nightmare! That, now, is really how the band feels. ( Not quite sure about the last two sentences)
Are you going to release a new single ?
Bill: No, we don’t have a new single at the moment. We haven’t been to the studio yet... The third album hasn’t been started yet, it’s not yet on track… But, obviously, there’ll be new songs, we’re going to go back to the studio this year, and we’re going to make a third album… There’s already a lot of material, plenty of ideas for lyrics and songs. So, that’s going to happen!
Do you think it’s possible to have a “normal” relationship with a girl?
Tom: That depends on what you understand “normal” to be, obviously…Otherwise, yeah, of course, except for that there’s the obvious problem of time. Everything would happen by telephone!
Bill: But, if you’re really in love, it’s completely possible.
Tom: You could travel in that case with the girl in question. So, yes, definitely. (I’m not clear on whether he means travel literally or keep up with her through the phone as he travels)
Do you have a story about a very innovative fan ?
Bill: We can’t decide by saying “This fan or that fan is more hysteric than the others !” Our fans are always crazy when we get there, and we love that ! In fact, the worst thing to us would be an audience that claps politely like you see for other artists... That would unnerve/bug us to see the audience simply clapping.
Tom: We find it amazing, the noise, the cries! It give us energy! That’s what we want on stage, to release that energy, to yell! We’re not there to relax. That we can do at home!
Bill was voted “Sexiest Man of the Year” in 2007 by a Spanish magazine. What do you think of that and who do you think is sexy?
Georg: Jessica Alba!
Tom: Jessica Alba!
Georg: No, I get it cause I said it first.
Tom: In any case, I think it’s a bit ridiculous to have this kind of category for the guys. It’s really bizarre, especially when it’s Bill who’s won!
Bill: I really wonder who could have chosen me as the sexiest man ! It’s a huge mistake! But in any case, it’s a great honor for me.
Tom: Clearly for me, it’s Jessica Alba. The fact that Bill got sexiest man means nothing. You have to wonder who voted for you, seriously.
Bill : Aside from that, about sexy girls… I don’t have a preference. There may be a couple actresses that I like, who are good... but I don’t really have idols or stars that I think are super sexy…
Tom : I would have a lot more!
Georg: Scarlett Johansson from the movie The Island
What is your favorite TV series?
Tom : I really like 24, it's definitely my kind of serires!
Bill: I love The King of Queens. If they're that funny in real life, I'd love to take part in that show!
Tom: I also like Playboy Mansion, but I don't know if that counts as a series...
Georg: At the same time, there have been lots of seasons (continuation of episodes is what he means, I think), so you could call it a series.
Tom: If not, I also like Girl Next Door...
What are you listening to right now?
Bill: For me, it doesn't change. It's the same thing as two and a half years ago... Cold Play, Keane. It's always the same mix.
Tom: Yes, for Georg it's the same, it hasn't changed... he always listens to Jeanette Biederman!
Georg: Yes, I even have the new album! Seriously though, I listen to Yellow Card and Jimmy Eat World...
Tom : I always listen to Samy Deluxe.
Gustav: Right now, I'm listening to Agony of Life's 'Ugly' album.
