They deserve better, but they deserved that never the less.

That's amaaaaaaaaaazing! Considering they didn't release anything, play any gigs or even come to this country (aside from a day at the EMAs), that's brilliant! I'm so happy.

I suppose if you look at it like that, "considering they didn't release anything, play any gigs or even come to this country", it is actually very good. I hadn't thought about it that way

When I first read it, I thought it was about America, and I was like "But surely they'd be higher then that?" Then I realised it wasn't *blushes*

It's incredible for them to win any kind of poll position in this country, considering, as Claire said, their lack of presence here.
So 8th is pretty good ;D

Yes, that's great! ;D I'm really happy about it. For all the reasons Claire mentioned and considering that we couldn't get them on any of the lists the year before that. So, this is a good result.

Tokio Hotel were also mentioned in the previous issue. I didn't get the December issue myself because I never got around to it but I saw a Canadian fan post on THUS about it (apparently they are one month behind on European magazines). Some more TH controversy but they were deemed important enough for a mention and that's cool I think. Actually it's two mentions. *lol* I'll include everything to give you an idea what else Rock Sound thought was worth being listed as the best and worst of 2008 (and yes, TH did make both *haha*).
10 THINGS THAT ROCKED IN 2008
#1 METAL RECORDS. metallica, meshuggah, slipknot, cavalera conspiracy, trivium, amon amarth, and bring me the horizon all released belting metal records this year. not bad.
#2 BRITAIN ROCKS. the subways released a storming new record, biffy clyro dominated every festival they played at and bullet for my valentine conquered america.
#3 ROCK SOUND TV. fighting with johnny turant, taling smack with madina lake, taking pictures at abbey road studios with panic at the disco and dodging storms with trivium. all in a year's work.
#4 FALL OUT BOY. rock sound was the first and only magazine in the world to visit the band as they recorded 'folie a deaux'. wht gret taste this band has.
#5 HARDCORE HOTTIES. rock sound writer ronnie kerswell and walls of jericho frontwoman candace kucsulain rated male rock totty in a poster pullout. the hate mail we received was incredible.
#6 BEING RIGHT. we put paramore on the cover of the magazine and told the world that they were tired and on the brink of collapse. four days before the issue hit the shops the band cancelled their remaining uk dates and headed home to get away and work on their personal issues. not cool that they nearly broke up, very cool that we called it.
#7 EVERY TIME I DIE. rock sound missed out on the exclusive pictures of wentz's marriage to ashlee simpson, but ETID frontman keith buckley promised his wedding pictures to rock sound for 100 pounds. what a legend.
#8 READING AND LEEDS. yes, reading was rediculously quiet but metallica and rage against the machine still slayed, while cancer bats and the gallows proved that the future is pretty d**n bright.
#9 TOKIO HOTEL winning a VMA. good on those dudes!
#10 NEW MUSIC. we've received over 1,500 albums in the past 12 months. there was some turgid crap in there but still enough gems to make it more than worthwhile.
10 THINGS THAT SUCKED IN 2008
#1 DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL. the second stage was a mile away and most of the metal bands played at reading. oh, and disturbed played. enough said.
#2 SLIPKNOT CANCELLING AT LEEDS. broken bones. pah! pansies.
#3 TOKIO HOTEL winning a VMA. have you seen their lead singer?
#4 GALLOWS' LACK OF MANNERS. what annoys you most about the music industry?"c*nts like you and photographers." how rude.
#5 ROCK BAND. what's that? you and three of your mates love playing music together? form a real band then, you morons!
#6 KID ROCK. rock sound is embarrassed to share part of our name with that muppet.
#7 TIGHT DENIM ON PUDGY EMO GIRLS. self-explanatory really. put the muffin top away.
#8 BAND BREAKING UP. iforward, russia!, reuben, midasuno, johnny truant and loads of other rock sound favorites broke up, or, as they like to say these days, went on "indefinite hiatus".
#9 MACHINE HEAD. while we'll be seeing them again live in 2009, to say there won't be a follow-up to the massive "the blackening" opus is tantamount to sacrilege. we're hopeful the wait, however, will be worth it.
#10 BAD NEWS. travis barker in a near death crash, chiodos frontman craig owens overdosing, and limp bizkit reforming blihted 08 at nearly every turn. good news only in 2009 please.

Hmm, so they've been in Rock Sound twice now... Maybe this is the magazine, along with Sugar, that we need to work on? To promote them some more?

That's what I've been thinking, Jess. Not to forget that they were the one TH had a two-page spread in before RSG was released and then they also printed a pic of the band along with the feedback letter that mentioned them.
