On January 6, a new interview with Tokio Hotel came out, and here's the translation (by me):
IOL: TH talks about the new album and reveals secrets
Wether you like it or not, the truth is that Tokio Hotel was one of the biggest bands in 2008. The German band won several important awards and they even beat Metallica and Linkin Park in the category for «Best Live Band» at the MTV Europe Music Awards.
In interview with IOL Música, Bill and Tom Kaulitz, Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer promised to return to Portugal with a new album and they talked about the band's success, their music preferences and even about the time the lead singer of Tokio Hotel spends getting his «mane» hairdo ready.
IOL Música: Have you started working on your new album?
Bill: Yes, we had, but we're still on our creative process. All I can say 'till now is that we went to the studio with no limits in our heads. We're completely free to do whatever we want to, and we've already tried many thing, many different sounds. It's like we press a button to «restart» and we start it all over again. Everything is possible, there's no limits. Some songs doesn't even sound like ours. We're very excited.
What are the plans for 2009? Are you returning to Portugal this year?
Tom: We can't wait for the release of the album. We hope it hits the stores in the Spring.
Bill: And we would love to go back to Portugal, as soon as we're on a new tour.
You won several big awards in 2008. Did u expect that?
Bill: That's crazy (laughs)! We never expected such thing. It's surreal to think we won these awards, but we owe all that to our fans. They made it possible.
How do you deal with the band's success among the fans and with the harassment from the female fans?
Tom: We love the harassment (laughs). The truth is that the things haven't changed much for the rest of the band, they still get no luck with the girls. But I have a lot of fun...
Bill: We love our fans, they're always there, full of energy and extremely devotees. They live all this with us and accompany us wherever we go. They're the ones who make all of this possible and take us through the world. They're amazing. We have the best fans in the world.
Do any of you have a girlfriend? Doesn't she care with the harassment from the fans?
Bill: None of us has a girlfriend yet.
Don't you ever get tired of all this success? Don't you miss being regular teenagers and be able to walk on the street neing unkown?
Bill: The success is all we ever wanted since we started. Tom and I were already in the music world since 8, or 9 years old... We were 15 when Tokio Hotel «exploded» in Germany. But that doesn't mean we don't do what other teenagers do. We just grew up under the eyesight of the media, whose cared too much with everything we did. For instance, when we were busted drinking alcohol in parties... (laughs)
Tom: You can be sure we never stopped having fun... (laughs)
Bill, how long does it takes for you to put your make-up on and get your hair done, before the concerts?
Tom: Twenty hours... (laughs)
Bill: I don't take that long anymore (laughs). In fact, I'm very fast - I need around 45 minutes to get ready.
What do you do on your free time?
Bill: When we have a day off, we like to sleep as long as we can (laughs).
Georg: Except Gustav, he always gets up early in the morning.
Tom: Yes, but we sleep, eat, watch DVDs, chill with our friends and go back to sleep.
Which are your favorite bands?
Bill: I've always liked Nena. I listen to different music genres, but now my favorite artists are Pink and Coldplay.
Georg: I grew up listening to Oasis and Rolling Stones, because of my parents. Now my favourite is Yellowcard.
Gustav: I like Metallica, Slipknot, System of a Down, Audioslave...
Tom: And I like Samy Deluxe and Foo Fighters.
