Interviewer: German rock band, Tokio Hotel, were in Canada to promote their new album, Scream, set to release in North America March 24th.
Trying to translate your music for english lovers (?),is that difficult? Do you find that their phrases are concept that we don't understand that is in your music?
Bill: It really took time and it wasn't easy because you compare the languages to each other obviously in German you work with different sentences. Not every word is found in the english language. It took some time to really find the right words and to make it really clear. We really wanted to go for a one-to-one translation, so that really took some time. Then I went into the studio and that took some time as well because I really wanted to sound native. I really wanted to sound as perfect as possible.
Tom: Yeah, but things take a long time for Bill anyway. Whether he sings in English or German, he's not good at hitting the right tone.
Bill: Nein. Pffft.
Interviewer: As huge rockstars in Europe, Tokio Hotel has a fiercly loyal legan of screaming female fans. A trend that has followed them to North America.
Bill: Our fans come up with so many amazing ideas. They write us letters. The longest now is 12 kilometers long. One fan actually bought us a star. There is a star out in the uinverse named Tokio Hotel. One girl redesigned her car themed after us, and drove next to our tour bus. Some fans travel the world with us. Wherever we are, they are. They are really incredible fans and they come up with a lot of stuff.
Tom: Well, you know I could add a couple of stories from my hotel room now, but-
Bill: We don't want to hear.
Tom: Even if you would, you know, it would take ages and we would probably need to do an extra interview for that.
Interviewer: Tokio Hotel have been together for 7 years. Let me repeat that. 7 years. Lead singer Bill and his twin brother Tom, were only 11 when they met up with bassist Georg and drummer Gustav. They released their first single in Europe in 2005, changing their lives practically over night.
So you guys are very young for how much success you've had. Do you feel like you're missing out on anything or do you just realise that your lives are different and you like that kind of thing?
Bill: Well, its different compared to the lives people our age live, but it was our decision and we wanted it. Tom and me, we were 15 when we broke Gemrany and since then we are constantly on the road. So thats the difference, being so young and travelling all over the place. But as I said, it was our decision. It was what we always wanted to do and it was a clearly-made decision. Experiencing this, sitting here today in Toronto, giving interviews, playing shows over here in Canada, that was nothing we expected, or that we thought would happen.
Interviewer: If you guys were could not be musicians for some reasons, what jobs would you be interested in doing?
Tom: A lot of people specualte on that question. For me, I always reduce it down to the sexual aspect. I'd probably have to become a stripper. Some people say I could become a porn star as well, so it has to be one of those two.
Interview: No self convidence problems
Bill: For me, I actually don't know. I put all my luck on this card. All I've ever wanted to do was be on stage and sing. Sure, you think about the possibility that it doesn't work, but I took this chance and luckily it worked out. I thank God this really happened to me because I don't know what else I'd do.
Tom: Honestly, as far as music goes, this is probably the only thing I can do.
Bill: Yeah, that is the only talent you have.
Interviewer: What about you guys?
Georg: I would own the strip club where Tom would work.
Gustav: I would be a fireman.
Bill: Yeah, in Georg's strip club.
Tom: You'd have the fireman hose. Its all about the strip club.
*Lots of laughter*
Interviewer: The Tokio Hotel strip club
*Even more laughter*
