I thought this deserved it's own thread because it's just great. This interview for Bravo Web TV is fantastic. I really enjoyed it. That much talk for just under 10 minutes! Gustav always cracks me up with his little casual comments. *lol* The whole chewing gum story was hilarious. I was laughing so much the whole time. It was really lovely to see an interview like that again.
Hope you all enjoy it as well. ;D
******************************************************
Right, then erm… Yes, just tell us what you’ve been up to over, like, the past weeks.
Bill: Erm, was haben wir so…? Erm, wir war’n in… Wir war’n in Asien…
Erm, what have we…? Erm, we’ve been to… We’ve been to Asia…
Sascha: Ja. Yes.
… and [we] had, yeah, [we’ve] played a concert, a small one. So, we’ve been over there for the first time, have been meeting our fans there for the first time and erm... [It was] the very first step, so to speak.
Tom: Ja. Das war sehr gut, ja.
Yes. That was very good, yes.
Bill: Und das war sehr aufregend. Weil es ja wirklich… Weil man ja so weit fliegt und dann, erm … wirklich ja ‘ne ganz andere Kultur is’, ganz andere Menschen.
And it was very exciting. Because it really... Because one flies so far away and then, erm... [it] is just really a very different [kind of] culture, very different people. And still, people can sing along and so on. We really had a...
Tom: Ja ja, war gut die Show!
Yes yes, it was a good one, that show!
Bill: Wir hatten ‘ne gute Show.
We had a good show.
Gustav: Ja. Yes.
Tom: Also, wir haben in Malaysia … haben wir ‘ne richtige Show gehabt. Ich glaub’, wir haben… Wie langen haben gespielt, irgendwie? ‘Ne Stunde, oder so?
So, in Malaysia we had… we had a real show. I think, we were... How long did we somehow play for? An hour or something like that?
Georg: Ja. Yes.
Tom: Und dann, erm… Dann waren wir noch mal in Taiwan . Hatten da so’n kleines, erm, Akustik-Set. Das war sehr gut.
And then, erm… Then we’ve also been to Taiwan. [we] played like a little, erm, acoustic set there. That was very good.
Sascha: Was ist denn so das krasseste was euch in der letzten Zeit so passiert ist?
What is like the most badass thing that has happened to you recently?
Bill: Das Krasseste. Hm. *contemplating* Ach Sascha, ich weiß es nicht. *laughing*
The most badass. *contemplating* Oh Sascha, I don’t know. *laughing*
Tom: Ich weiß es auch nich’.
I don’t know either.
Sascha: Aber gab’s irgendwie in Asien… irgendwie so…
But wasn’t there anything in Asia… like, something…
Those are always the kind of general questions where one absolutely doesn’t know…
Sascha: Aber gab’s da so… was Krasses in Asien was euch so passiert ist, wo ihr euch so gedacht habt “boah, krass, das is’…”.
But wasn’t there, like… Something really wicked that happened to you in Asia where you were thinking like “boah, gosh, that’s…“.
Bill: Also, wir…
Well, we…
Tom: Also, wir haben krasse Gerichte gegessen.
Well, we were eating pretty weird dishes.
Bill: Genau. Exactly.
Georg: Ja. Yes.
Bill: Ja, wir haben krass-…
Yes, we had weird…
Sascha: Was denn?
Like what?
Also, so komisches Zeug was man hier gar nicht irgendwie kriegt und was wir nie essen.
Well, we had like weird stuff… One evening we went to have Chinese food with a, erm, erm, with a colleague and erm, we tried like some dessert things. Well, like weird stuff that one doesn’t get here somehow and that we never eat.
The thing is that we’re vegetarian. That means, of course we had discussions with all the people there all day long. And erm, then we’ve been to that, erm erm... Exactly, we’ve been to eat Chinese food and then [we] have... Exactly and [we] have tried vegetarian things and those really were, like, some kind of vegetables and fruits and some things that are really only known over there, that only grow there, too. And I have no idea anymore what it was but it was... One thing or the other definitely tasted very weird.
Tasted very weird, yes. Those were definitely things that aren’t known here.
*laughing*
Could you stomach the food alright? Have there been cases of diarrhoea or something like that as well? Or stomach aches or something? *laughing*
Bill: Das ist Georgs Spezialthema. Da müssen wir Georg fragen.
That’s Georg’s special topic. We have to ask Georg about that.
*Georg shaking head*
Tom: Aber Georg, ich kann mich erinnern…
However Georg, I seem to remember…
Actually I don’t remember anymore.
However, I seem to remember, that erm..
Georg: Ja?
You do?
*grinning* Oder ?
I seem to remember though, that something like that was dropped. *grinning* Wasn’t it? (nb Really no idea, if Tom chose the verb “drop” intentionally just to play a bit with words but seeing the grin on his face, it’s possible. Using your imagination it could have a bit of a double meaning: to drop sth into conversation or to take a sh*t. “fiel” really isn’t a word you’d usually use in that context, so either he said it by accident or he was playing around. Whichever way... tried to keep it for the translation as it was kind of funny.)
Georg: Weiß ich nich’. Ich hab’ ja immer Imodium Akut da. *making dismissive hand move*
I don’t know. I’ve always got Imodium Akut (nb diarrhoea medication) with me anyway. *making dismissive hand move*
Tom: Er hat ja… Er hat ja immer ‘n bisschen Durchfall. Das ist ja nich’ …Das ist ja das. Er hat ja immer ‘n bisschen Durchfall.
He’s just got… He’s just always got a bit of diarrhoea. That’s not… That’s just it. He’s just always got a bit of diarrhoea.
*Georg laughing*
Sascha: Ok.
Ok. Erm, so is one cautious about... about the food?
Erm, was natürlich überhaupt nicht geht. Also, wir waren echt…
Well, as long as it’s vegetarian I’m gladly prepared to give it a try. Of course I was a bit scared in China. Not that we’ve been there now but dogs and cats and so on also get eaten over there. Erm, of course that’s absolutely not an option. Meaning, of course that’s an absolute no-go for me. Of course I looked into it, [to see] why it is like that and what it’s all about. And I find it very, very horrible. Erm and, however, for as long as I knew exactly what something is and that it isn’t any animal, we gave it a try. Meaning, we were really... However, you know what’s we’re like. We’re totally set in our habits. We’re just always eating pizza, pizza and pasta. Actually it was the same over there, too. Well, we’ve tried a few things but…
With the exception of this one time when we were [at the Chinese restaurant].
Sascha: Ok.
So’n…
And then we’ve also had such a weird… On some TV show we were also drinking some weird drink. Like...
Georg: Ja, so, so… Tee mit Milch und so…
Yes, like, like… tea with milk and like…
Bill: Tee mit Milch.
Tea with milk.
Georg:… Gelee unten drin.
... jelly at the bottom.
Bill: Genau. Das waren so…
That’s right. It had some kind…
Tom: So Geleebälle.
Like jelly balls.
Bill:…
… of little jelly balls, somehow. However, that was pretty cool because there was a big straw and they [jelly balls] immediately made their way up [with the liquid].
However, as we’re just talking about “extreme“… The most extreme thing that comes to my mind, is… When entering the country... We flew to Singapore first. When entering the country you have to sign that as soon as you import drugs, erm, you’ll be prosecuted with the death penalty.
Bill: Kopf ab.
[You’ll] lose your head.
Tom: Kopf ab.
[You’ll] lose your head.
Bill *laughing*: Nein. Aber…
No, but…
But something along that line. That means, you have to sign that really... Should you happen to have some kind of drugs with you somehow... - you also don’t always really know what’s allowed there and what isn’t – Erm, [you’ll] lose your head.
It’s enough to just happen to have the wrong kind of medication with you…
Tom: Ja, genau.
Yes, exactly.
Georg:… und dann ist’s vorbei, ne?
… and then you’re done for, aren’t you?
Sascha: Ok, erm… Aber euch… ihr hattet nichts dabei, ja?
Ok, erm… However, you… you didn’t have anything with you, right?
Tom: Nee. Nah.
Bill: Nee, wir hatten keine Drogen dabei.
Nah, we didn’t have any drugs with us.
Tom: Unsere Köpfe sind noch dran.
Our heads are still attached.
Georg: Wie du siehst, noch nicht.
As you can see, not yet.
Woman: Wurde euch was angeboten, so. Passiert es dort leichter als in Deutschland?
Had something been offered to you, like. Is it easier to happen there than in Germany?
Ah oh well, it’s not like one gets... [out there much]
I don’t really think so… It’s, it’s also very different. After all, it’s very strict in Singapore, like. Well, there... all in all, I think, it’s like the cleanest city that I’ve ever seen like that. Absolutely beautiful.
Bill: Ja.
Yes. And anyway, one doesn’t really get to go out much, right?
Also, da…
For example, it’s also not allowed to spit chewing gum out on the street and so on. Well, there... That means, it’s also not a case of one [...] there...
Bill: Ich hab’s aber trotzdem gemacht, übrigens.
Even so, I still did it, by the way.
Tom: Echt? Really?
Sascha: Echt? Und nicht… nichts passiert?
Really? And not… nothing happened?
In that moment, I didn’t think about it.
Gustav: Verfahren läuft!
Legal proceeding is pending.
I honestly didn’t think about it. Prior to it everybody was already saying “Ok, don’t do that” and then I was sitting in the car and...
Tom: Ich mach’ aber noch ‘n Anruf…
However, I’ll still be making a phone call…
Bill: … trotzdem meinen ausgespuckt.
… I still spat mine out.
… and when we’ll go there next, he’ll get arrested at the airport.
Bill: Ja. Ich darf wahrscheinlich nie wieder… Aber Singapur war zum Beispiel ganz beeindruckend. Also, damit haben wir alle gerechnet.
Yes. I’m probably not allowed to ever [enter the country] again. However, Singapore was very impressive, for example. Well, none of us expected that.
Tom: Absolut. Absolutely.
I think, it was like the loveliest city that I have seen in a long time. Like, it was very, very beautiful.
Georg: Ja. Yes.
Bill: Wir hatten ‘n total geiles Hotel und hatten echt ‘ne richtig gute Zeit. Also, das war richtig gut.
We stayed at a totally awesome hotel and really had a very good time. Well, it was really good.
Sascha: Was macht ihr denn jetzt? Was ist jetzt geplant?
What you’re going to do now? What’s planned now?
Ja. Also, erst mal wieder Asien jetzt.
Now, Asia will be up next again. We’ll have the MTV World Stage coming up now. Then, erm, we’ll also be going to China for the first time. We’re appearing on a TV show there and... Yes. So, it’ll be Asia up next for now.
Tom: Genau. Exactly.
Sascha: Hm ok.
Other than that we always keep on planning. That’s just always that. Like, right now we’re in a bit of a resting state, like. We’ve just... have also just come back from our tour so to speak.
Bill: Und jetzt kommt unsere DVD raus.
And now our DVD will get released.
Tom: Genau. Exactly.
Bill: Jetzt natürlich als nächstes. Die kommt im Juli. Frag mich nich’ nach dem genauen Datum.
Of course, that’s up next now. It’ll be out in July. Don’t ask me for an exact date.
Tom: Im Sommer, auf jeden Fall.
Definitely in summer.
Bill: Im Sommer. Also, ja.
In summer. And erm, the live album. And we, Tom and I, have also just approved the last, final cuts, somehow – of the DVD and so on. It’ll be really good. We’ve recorded it in Milan, the concert. And else wise, [things] will also keep going on. We also want to play a tour in South America, this year. And there’ll be some more Asia concerts. So, yeah.
Do you actually still get around doing sports or something like that? Or hobbies or something? Do you still have time for it?
Nope, but we’ve never been into sports anyway. Well, I’ve got to say that I’m totally not athletic. I don’t do any sports. I went on a treadmill [to prepare] for the tour, erm... However, I could’ve saved myself the bother.
Georg: So, zwei Mal! *laughing*
[he went] Like two times! *laughing*
Bill: Nein, nein, nein! Ich hab’s wirklich intensiv… wirklich doch, dies’ Mal. Da muss ich mich verteidigen, ich hab’s wirklich durchgezogen. Ich bin mit Tom…
No, no, no! I was really doing it full-scale... like really, this time. I have to speak up for myself in this case, I really saw it through. I went with Tom...
Tom *nodding*: Zwei Wochen.
[for] Two weeks.
Gustav: … Intensiv-Joggen. *laughing*
... full-scale jogging. *laughing*
No, I really went with Tom to the… I even… I even went on the treadmill while on holiday. I wanted…
Tom: Ja, wie „mit Tom“? Tom geht ja gar nicht…
Yeah, what do you mean “with Tom”. Tom doesn’t even…
Bill: Ja, nein.
Yeah, right. I just wanted to get into shape a bit and so on but forget it!
So…?
But doesn’t that have negative effects on the body if you can’t even exercise on a regular basis? Like...?
Yes, let me put it this way: of course I’m better looking, right?
I mean, I’ve never been exercising. Therefore, I don’t know about that. However, my lifestyle isn’t healthy anyway, right? I smoke like a chimney and... eat pizza all day long.
Tom : Du rauchst?!
You smoke?!
Bill: Ab und zu.
Every once in a while.
Georg: Was?! Say what?!
Bill: Ganz selten! *jokingly pretending to say it with hand over his mouth*grinning*
Once in a blue moon! *jokingly pretending to say it with hand over his mouth*grinning*
*Georg laughing*
Sascha *to Tom*: Aber du machst Sport?
But you exercise?
Tom: Ja, immer wenn ich dazu komme. Ich bin aber auch kein Sport-…
Yes, every time when I get around to it. However, I’m also not a sport...
Georg: Na, Tom is’ aber…
Well, Tom is...
Tom: .. kein Sportfetischist.
… not a sports fetishist.
Georg: ... jeden Tag bei McFit, eigentlich.
… actually at McFit (nb It’s the name of a chain of gyms in Germany.) every day, though.
*Tom sighing*
Sascha *laughing*: Ok… ja. Ok… yes.
Woman *to the Gs*: Wie ist es bei euch beiden? Sporttechnisch.
What about you two? Exercise-wise.
Georg was only waiting for someone to ask him about it now.
*really weird Bill laugh*lol*
Tom: Und ja, Georg macht Sport und is’n total sportlicher Typ, so.
And yes, Georg does exercise and he’s a totally athletic guy, like.
Georg: Ab und zu.
Every once in a while.
Tom: Also, wir nennen ihn eigentlich so den durchtrainierten Leonardo DiCaprio.
Well, we actually also call him the buff Leonardo DiCaprio.
Bill: Ja. Yes.
Sascha: Und Gustav?
And Gustav?
Entschuldigung. *laughing*
Well, that’s out of question with Gustav. Excuse me. *laughing*
Sascha: Wieso? Why?
Tom: Weil, du, Gustav ist „Dicki“ aus der Band.
Because, come on, Gustav is “fatty” of the band.
Sascha: Warum disst ihr den eigentlich immer?
Why are you actually always dissing him?
Georg: Das bin doch ICH!
But that’s ME!
Bill: Ihn?!
Him?! *pointing to Georg and saying* Last time it still had been him over there.
Sascha: Aber…
But… But he always gets dissed and you’re saying he’s too fat.
In reality, it’s really Tom and I that get discriminated within the band all day long.
Sascha: Ja aber…
Yes but…
Woman: Das war die Rache hier jetzt. *laughing*
This has been their revenge now. *lauging*
Bill: Ja, genau.
Yes, exactly. Actually it’s those two, when… As soon as the door closes, it’s really going down and our number is up.
Sascha *to Gs*: Was sagt ihr dann über die?
What are you saying about them then?
Georg: Aber halt nicht mit Worten, sondern…
However, just without using words but…
Bill: Ja. Yes.
Sascha *to Georg*: Macht ihr die fertig.
You give them some stick.
Georg: Ja. Yes.
And, isn’t it mean when they always keep dissing you in interviews?
Georg: Oh, das ist total gemein.
Oh, it’s totally mean.
Tom: Das ist gemein. Das ist doofi, ne?
That is mean. It’s “doofi” (silly-ish), isn’t it?
Gustav *adding “i“ at the end of the word, sounding more childish, as Tom just did*: Das ist, das ist doofi.
That is, that is “doofi“ (silly-ish).
Sascha: Ja? Yeah?
Gustav: Find’ ich echt blödi von denen.
I really think it’s “blödi“ (jerk-ish) of them.
*Bill laughing*
Tom: Ja, aber ansonsten... Was, was gibt’s denn neues…? Bill hat ’ne Freundin.
Yes, but what else... What, what else is new...? Bill has got a girlfriend.
*Georg, Bill and Tom laughing*
Sascha: Ja? Wie heißt sie?
Yeah? What’s her name?
Tom *to Bill*: Oder?
Or not? Oh right, we’re not allowed to say that already.
Bill *hitting Tom’s leg*: Ach Tom, Mensch!
Gosh Tom! Duh!
Sascha: Wie heißt die denn?
So what’s she called?
Bill: Jacqueline. *grinning*
*Bill and Tom laughing*
Woman: Aus Magdeburg?
From Magdeburg?
Bill: Die hat kurze, rote Haare.
She’s got short, red hair.
Georg: Jacqueline-Chantelle
Tom: Aus Loitsche.
From Loitsche.
Gustav: Jacqueline-Chantelle aus… aus, aus, aus Rogätz.
Jacqueline-Chantelle from… from, from, from Rogätz. (nb municipality in Saxony-Anhalt)
Nah, unfortunately nothing new has happened in that respect.
Woman: Mensch, so geht das nich’ weiter.
Gosh, it can’t go on like that.
Sascha *to Tom*: Bei dir?
How about you?
Tom: Nee, bei mir auch nicht. Also, nichts Festes auf jeden Fall, zumindest.
Nah, [nothing new] with me neither. Well, definitely no [relationship] commitment, at least. However, I’m intending to! But I’ve already said that once before, haven’t I?
Sascha: Ja. Yes.
Georg: Ja ja. Yeah yeah.
Bill: Aber Georg is’ immer noch mit seiner Freundin zusammen. *clapping*
However, Georg’s still together with his girlfriend. *clapping*
Tom: Ja. Yes.
Georg: Der Wahnsinn, ne?
Incredible, isn’t it?
Sascha: Hochzeit? Verlobung?
Wedding? Engagement?
Georg: Ja, so…
Yeah, well…
Bill: Ja, ich find’ die geil. Wir sagen die ganze Zeit schon… Also, ich will auch, dass sich das…
Yes, I think she’s awesome. All the time we’ve been saying already... Well, I also want it to...
He’s pushing for it because, because it’s like… After the wedding: having sex for the first time.
Georg: Ja. Yes.
Tom: Und darum hoffe ich ja natürlich,…
And of course that’s why I’m hoping…
Maybe we could… here… deliver the subliminal message to her that Georg actually wants to be proposed to. Meaning, he doesn’t want to pop the question himself...
*Georg laughing*
Bill: … sondern er will den eigentlich bekommen.
… but he actually wants to get the proposal.
Georg *mocking German TV show „Sarah & Marc in Love“*: Nein, erst mal drehen wir „Georg und … (Punkt Punkt Punkt) in Love“ und dann…
No, first of all we have to film “Georg and … [girlfriend’s name he doesn’t want to give away] in Love“ and then...
Yes, but to be honest, but to be honest, we have already done a bit of planning [to see] what we’ll do if Georg suddenly becomes a father.
Bill: Ja. Yes.
Sascha: Oh oh.
Bill: Das kann ja passieren. Wer weiß.
After all, it could happen. Who knows.
Tom: Das kann ja passieren, ne?
After all, it could happen, couldn’t it?
Georg: Kann ja... Glaube ich nicht.
Could yes… I don’t think so.
Sascha: Möchtest du denn?
Would you even like it [to happen]?
I’m playing the bass in the studio, in the studio, anyway.
Georg: Ooohh. *laughing*
Sascha: Ach so.
Oh right.
However, it would be a problem on tour then.
Sascha *to Georg*: Möchtest du denn bald Kinder haben?
Would you even like to have children soon?
Georg: Nein. Bald nicht, nein.
No. Not soon, no.
Sascha: Aber irgendwann?
But some time?
Georg: Irgendwann. So mit 40.
Some time. Like [when] aged 40.
Tom: Na, gucke, gucke, gucke, gucke, gucke […]
Well, hear, hear, hear, hear, hear […]
Woman: Babysittet ihr dann auch?
Will you also be baby-sitting then?
Bill: Häh? Huh?
Woman: Babysittet ihr dann auch?
Will you also be baby-sitting then?
Bill: Auf keinen Fall! Nee.
No way! Nope.
Georg: Um Gottes Willen! Denen geb’ ich doch kein Kind!
For God’s sake! I won’t be giving a child to them!
Tom: Ich hab’…
I think, I think, I couldn’t even do that anyway.
Tom: Ich muss…
I have…
I’ve got, I’ve got to say we’re fully occupied with our four dogs.
Tom: Ja. Yes.
Basically that’s really like, like [having] children. And...
Although I’ve got to say, I’ve got, I’ve got very, very good ideas for names for own children. However, I don’t want any children but I’ve got very, very good names for them.
Sascha: Tom und Bill.
Tom and Bill.
Yes, but you also don’t want to reveal the names. So what you’re telling that for?
Woman: Wie jetzt?
Come again?
Nah, I’m not revealing them. I’m just saying it to let you know that I’ve got very good ideas for names.
*Bill laughing*
Sascha: Ach so. Ok.
Oh right. Ok.
We do talk about names for our children from time to time but we don’t want to have any.
Tom: Beim Namensuchen bin ich total kreativ, irgendwie.
Somehow, I’m totally creative when it comes to finding names.
Georg: Tom Junior.
Sascha: Bill Junior.
Gustav: Tom und Kind...
Tom and a child…
Sascha: Billette. *to Gustav* Und erm, du bist auch noch Single?
And erm, you’re also still single.
Gustav: Ja. Yes.
Sascha: Ok, gut.
Ok, well.
Gustav: Ja, ich bin auch noch… frei.
Yes, I’m also still… free. (nb But maybe he means it in the sense of “available”. You can decide for yourself.)
Sascha: Sehr schön.
Very well.
Sascha *to Bill*: Erm, über dich… In dich ist ja Adam Lambert total verliebt. Wie findest du das?
Erm, about you… Adam Lambert is totally in love with you. What do you think about it?
Erm, I don’t really know about that yet because, I’ve got to say, it’s not like I really know him.
Sascha: Also, das hat er mir gesagt.
Well, that’s what he told me.
Also, besser gesagt, gar nicht. Ich hab’ den noch…
I don’t really know him that well. Or rather [more like] not at all. I have him...
Although we […] about Adam Lambert… We always get asked about it.
Bill: … angesprochen. Also…
… asked about. However, I’ve never met him. I also don’t really know much [of his] music. I’ve very briefly seen the video and song once, but to be honest, I don’t know him otherwise. Well...
Woman: Würdest du ihn denn gern mal kennen lernen?
Would you like to meet him?
I can’t really say it like that. It depends on what he’s like, right? Well, if we’d happen to meet somewhere, then... Sure, why not. But, but I... so far it hasn’t happened yet.
Sascha: Ok. Na gut, dann…
Ok. Well then...
Woman: Vielen Dank.
Many thanks.
