I can speak fluent Polish and English, a little bit of French and I'm teaching myself some German now! It's a bit like Polish with the grammar I suppose... Anyway, LOVE LOVE LOVE German!

Hi guys
Ive started trying to teach myself German. I am also possibly going to try French and Spanish. I`ll see how I do with German and decide.
Other than that I only speak English.
I did learn German at school but I wasnt very interested so I didnt do so well with that. I didnt even sit it as a Standard Grade (Scottish exams - just incase there are people on this forum who dont know), I just did it at Access 3 level. It was easy that way. I was in a very small class, not even 15 people inc. me.
But thanks to my luv of TH now I wish to at least try and develop better German. I already know the basic rules so that should help.
If anyone has any tips on how to learn to speak a language plz let me know.

I'm going to teach myself German in the break between exams and college, and maybe a bit of Russian or Estonian then in my second year of college I'm going to take night classes to learn Japanese ! At the minute I only know English though, and some vulgar phrases in German! Does anyone have any tips on the best way to start off learning a language?

LOL, I know alot of vulgar phrases in German ^^ When I went on the exchange trip in March I got my partner's friend to teach me loads of rude abusive stuff xD and he did, it was hilarious :') and at the beginning of AS level my teacher gave us a sheet of rude phrases ahaha ^^ a good way to start is to go online and practise. I downloaded a Japanese language learning course free online, it's only basic but it teaches you the basics such as My name is..., animals, foods etc useful stuff I think it was this website I used : www.byki.com/I'm pretty sure it was that, but I haven't been able to use it recently and I forgot the name coz my laptops broke D: another tip - practise, practise, practise reading through vocab every night is a great way to learn it's what I do and it's paying off ALOT and another good one is translating foreign songs, such as TH xD I do that and it's crazy how much it's helped my german especially my translation skills, my german teacher wants me to become a translator now -_- but I'm not 100% sure yet good luck

I speak English and Spanish fluently (am half Peruvian) and got an A for French at GCSE and a B in German. I probably could have got a higher mark in German but I didn't really work very hard at school...I'm quite naturally good at anguages (my Mum's a linguist) but I found German word order almost impossible to learn, I remember the writing part of my German GCSE being so difficult. Plus, having three genders for words. I mean I was used to mascuine and feminine but never knew when to use neutral lol sorry if this post is getting a bit technical, it's all coming back to me now!
I also lived in Berlin for two years on and off so my German should really be better than it is :S
