Back then they were still called “Devilish”. Then [came] the new name “Tokio Hotel”, the first big story in BRAVO, the gigantic breakthrough! Tokio Hotel is absolutely your number one. That’s why BRAVO publishes this 100-page strong Special [issue] including everything a fan’s heart desires! Have fun with it.

PARTY?—THAT ALSO WORKS WITHOUT BOOZE WITH US
Bill’s, Tom’s, Gustav’s and Georg’s private party pictures
Actually Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav came to Munich to have very posh pictures taken of themselves for the Bravo Special! (see page 16—18). However, even after posing and changing clothes for hours the guys of Tokio Hotel were still far from being tired. Quite the contrary. After having quickly freshened up at their hotel the Magdeburg guys set off into Munich’s night, more precisely [to] the disco “Crownes Club”. And [they’re] “armed”. For the Tokios had a Polaroid camera with them and snapshot themselves all evening long. And what is the band’s recipe for a party? “We don’t need alcohol to party”, Georg explains. “Red Bull though! Nothing goes without it!”, Bill says. And Tom reveals what makes every party a guaranteed success: “Buy Red Bull, be in high spirits, get a good DJ, make sure there are some tits and always keep an eye on the bar and what’s going on there. Important: don’t ever, never ever play a party game. That’s just a no-no.”
You can see on their private snapshots whether Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav stuck to their golden party rules…

BILL – THE HIT WITH THE MANGA-[HAIR]CUT[/color][/b]
The Tokio Hotel front man is the eye-catcher of the band: his wild hairstyle, his cool make-up and his unique style make him a German megastar. However, that is exactly why he has to hide in school now…

He comes across like a magical creature. As if [he was] out of this world. Bill looks like an elf out of “The Lord of the Rings” with his pale, almost transparent skin, the almond-shaped, brown eyes and the feminine facial features. He is very tall for his age (1.77 metres) and so skinny that even the smallest shirts have to be tightened for him. However, the most eye-catching about the singer is his blue-black manga hair-style. A carnival remainder from four years ago. Back then he dressed up as a vampire and for the first time put strands of his hair in front of his face using gel. Bill is extremely vain. He admits to it himself. The Magdeburg guy gets up early every day just for his hairstyle. It takes Bill one hour in the bathroom to get ready. To go out at the weekends, even two [hours]: “It just takes a while to put on make-up, dye and style your hair and paint your [finger] nails.”
However, the look his fans love him for so much, got the 16-year-old into lots of trouble back home in the village of Loitsche. Someone who looks like this stands out. Others think [that] someone who looks like this wants to be something special. Older students bullied Bill. Or were trying to at least. Bill: “They shout things like poof and weirdo after me—but I don’t give a damn!” The singer does not have anything to do with people at his school anyway: “Tom and I have only got one best friend there. He’s called Andreas.” During their break the twins hide with him in the cafeteria. They have only been doing that since Tom and Bill got famous. To get away from their schoolmates’ stupid remarks. For the guys at school are jealous of the twins “because the girls just fancy us”, Bill says in his raspy puberty vocal change voice and tells: “My family thinks that I haven’t changed yet. However, at school they think we’d be rich now. They say ‘Just bring along champagne’ and reckon I’d still owe them money!” When in fact Bill and Tom “only” get 50 Euros pocket money from their mum, Simone. Even before their breakthrough the twins were not too much into school. Bill: “On the first day I was still extremely excited. Because of the Schultüte [aka Zuckertüte: colourful cardboard cone traditionally given to every child by their families on their first day of school, filled with sweets and little presents]. Already on the following day I never wanted to go back there again. To this day I find it unpleasant at school! However, one just needs to graduate though…”
Only that Bill does not know yet whether he will really graduate from his school. “We’re contemplating getting a private tutor.” They will not have it easy because Bill is cocky. Him and his brother are full of mischief. And on tour and during interviews Bill lets out anything that is on his mind. Everybody gets a remark thrown at them. However, no one can be mad at him. And if Bill has to burp then he just goes for it. “Afterwards one has to quickly say ‘Schulz’! And everybody who doesn’t immediately say it, gets a slap on the forehead.” That might not necessarily be what women wish for in a man but Bill is successful nonetheless—amongst girls of all age groups.
Unlike his brother, Bill does not reveal how many girlfriends he has had in his young life so far. In any case, he has had his first kiss aged nine: “Tom kissed her first—and then I did. Both of us thought it was awful and we never saw her again after that.” That makes Bill laugh. And one can see his sharp canine teeth. And suddenly he really looks like a little vampire. A very likable one though…
Bill is into:[/u]
My film: Whenever I go to the cinema I say afterwards “That’s my favourite film!” Currently I like “Barfuss”.
My idol: Since I was six years old I’ve totally been into Nena. I especially love her older songs. The new ones are okay!
My song: Nothing in particular. However, ‘Lonely’ by Akon is totally getting on my nerves. That was on TV and in ring tone ads too many times. I don’t want to hear it anymore!
My drink: My favourite drink is coke. Or Red Bull. Both are wicked. When partying I always need Red Bull. Nothing goes without.
My animal: Our dog ‘Scotty’! We’ve had him for four and half years. He’s a Labrador-Doberman crossbreed.

Big background picture: The serious observer: bassist Georg[/i]
GEORG – THE COOL GUY WITH THE KILLER GAZE[/color][/b]
The oldest Tokio guy was a rebel and every teacher’s horror in school. Nowadays bassist Georg is a menace to women only. Because he seems so mysterious. Why this is, is written down here…
PAGE 9
Top left, live picture: Eyes closed and there he goes : on stage Georg clears his soul while playing
Top right, on sofa picture: Cool styling, cool guy: the Tokio Hotel bassist knows what he wants
Middle right photo shoot picture: It’s that look that makes Georg attractive to women
His appearance resembles the one of a cat. He calmly strolls to the wherever the action takes place and takes a look around while the other band members kick up a fuss. He withdraws himself, peacefully smokes a cigarette. His movements are smooth. No hectic rush. Georg (18) likes to stay in the background. However, that can also quickly change: then he will turn it up, delivers some comments and moves around a bit to the music. Georg loves to dance, cannot keep his legs still if there is a good sound coming from somewhere. The others mock him for it but he is not bothered. He does not let it ruin his fun! He is doing whatever he wants in his jeans torn at the heels, washed-out Audioslave shirt, his hair a bit tousled. Oh yes, the hair! Although the tousled look suits him superbly, Georg wears his hair straight. When it comes to styling Georg turns to the two years younger Bill every now and then: “Do you think that looks too boy group-like?” The answer is no. Georg Moritz Hagen Listen is the pragmatist amongst the guys. [He] plays bass simply because his first basement band was missing a bass player back then. And because one “doesn’t have to fumble around as with a guitar”. And because “a bass is lovely smooth like that”. Exactly the right instrument for a guy like him. “I’m planning to learn more instruments”, he says. He’d like to learn playing the piano, “I think it’s totally awesome!” Being 18 he may be the oldest of Tokio Hotel but that still doesn’t make him the band dad. He very quickly clarifies that: “I don’t treat the other guys like children.”
In the past Georg used to be the rebel: “Just the way it is, one tests their boundaries and sees how far they can go”. Since then he’s entirely peaceful. To him the double strain of school/band is the hardest. He is in year 13 and will graduate next year. He wants to go through with it. Though his mum would allow him to take a break for a year – however, Georg doesn’t want to. Even though he is the centre of attention at his school since the success of his band. Georg doesn’t go to the schoolyard anymore but [hangs around] in front of the school to not have to talk about Tokio Hotel anymore. Merely not to cause a stir. “I’m above it if anybody makes a comment in the hallways.” The 18-year-old can handle difficult situations well. His parents separated just like the parents of Bill and Tom. He is not in touch with his father, a dentist, anymore, there are no siblings. Georg lives with his mum in Madgeburg. He doesn’t want to talk about what has happened with his father, it’s affecting him too much. He rather lets out emotions using his bass. Georg’s face rarely brightens up, his pensive forehead unfolds. Then he opens up a bit and gives the person opposite him an insight into his emotions – and that’s when he turns on his charm. Especially with women. Georg was in love a few times. However, it was never enough for a relationship. “Sometimes being in love is not nice at all”, he says and talks about a girl he was madly in love with. He chased after her for half a year until he realised there was no point. Nevertheless, he still believes in love. And in friendship anyway. The 18-year-old has got different circles of friends outside the band. People [he knows] from school or handball. When he is off, he enjoys going out. “With my friends I don’t have to think about anything for once and can clear my head.” He calls it “maintaining social contacts” and has to grin because it sounds so pompous. And the room brightens whenever he grins and the other Georg, the serious one, takes a break. The shadows vanish from his face. It is as if a curtain opens to reveal a charming guy who is funny and clever. And the audience sits attentively, gets enchanted and only asks for one thing: an encore…

My film: My absolute favourite flick is the first part of “The Matrix” with Keanu Reeves in the leading role.
My CDs: I love the Oasis album “Definitely Maybe” and the Black Eyed Peas’ song “Don’t phunk with my heart”
My audio book: I’m not the type of person that likes to read. Therefore I’m listening to “The Physician” [“Der Medicus”] by Noah Gordon on CD.
My food: I like to eat Gnocchi with Gorgonzola Sauce the most. And I’m drinking Red Bull with it, the sugar free one though.
My favourite female singer: At the moment it’s Kelly Clarkson. I totally dig her song “Since U been gone”.

TOM – HEARTBREAKER WITH AN ANGELIC FACE[/color][/b]
He looks so endearing but he is a sly old dog. Guitarist Tom is the womanizer of Tokio Hotel. The one with the 25 women, the biggest mouth and the coolest clothes…
PAGE 11
Top, middle photo shoot picture: Tom and women – he just wraps every [woman] round his finger with his cute grin
Right, live picture: Tom love being on stage. He’s in a different world when he’s playing.
Small middle picture: Tom aged 12 and his guitar – when he was a child he practised for hours every day
The first thing someone notices about Tom is his skin. It looks all soft and smooth, creamy-coloured and flawless. It makes him seem vulnerable, almost like a girl. However, skin can be deceiving. Because behind this angelic face Tom is a really cool rascal. He’s cocky, wears the hottest Hip Hop clothes and is the womanizer of Tokio Hotel. Allegedly he’s already had more than 25 women. The 16-year-old knows what he wants. And he speaks it out loud. In the past it was difficult for him to adjust to school. “I hated that I couldn’t get up to mischief all the time but had to sit still”, Tom remembers and casually puts his hands into the pockets, his favourite pose. Together with his twin brother Bill, he causes mayhem in the world of their little school nearby Madgeburg, back then just like nowadays. The Tokio twins deliver blatant comments, throw little paper balls at their teacher, spatter ink on him. “I’ve got several reprimands”, Tom says a bit proudly in his high, slightly squeaky voice that cracks due to the sound level and speed sometimes. “There were even parents’ meetings because of me.” Tom is a good student despite the ruckus. He only gets As and Bs even though he never studies or rarely does his homework.
Tom is never alone. No matter what happens – Tom has got Bill. His twin brother is the most important person in the world for him. “I couldn’t live without Bill”, he says. Concerning Bill Tom gets all soft: “We do everything together, we tell each other everything, we’re inseparable.” Even when they were little children the village they live in was too confined for both of them already. They want to get out, they want more, they want to be free. Tom does boys’ stuff while sensitive Bill starts writing poems and song lyrics: he tries football, Karate, listens to rap (preferably Samy Deluxe), sprays graffiti. And [he] finds his own style: mega baggy Hip Hop trousers and t-shirts, caps and dreadlocks. “I had them done at an Afro shop when I was 12”, Tom tells. “Ever since then they’ve been a part of me.” Out of all of his hobbies only one remains: music. With his guitar he acts out the ambition he’s lacking in school. Every day he practises for hours. Nowadays Tom is a sexy whirlwind on stage who carries his guitar as cool as his baggy trousers. “Right now I’m living my dream”, he says and grins his Tom-grin. [It’s] Wide, cheeky, stunning, with a flawless row of little snow-white teeth. When he grins like that his eyes narrow to slits. He already broke many female hearts with those hazelnut-brown eyes. “Tom really is a bad one”, even his brother confirms. It’s Tom’s confidence that turns the legs of women who are even much older than him to jelly. Tom looks straight into one’s eyes. Always. It’s this impish look on his face. That always blew all the girls’ minds. “In the past I played Völkerball [nb similar to Dodgeball] with the girls at after-school daycare – that’s when all of them always fell in love with me.” Tom doesn’t reveal whether it’s really true about the 25 women: “I can’t remember how many it were.” However, he remembers his first time: “I was 13 and it was disappointing. I expected more from it.” Nowadays, “it” seems to be better. For Tom likes to take advantage of more girls being crazy about him now that he’s famous. “I just want to have fun”, he says and his button eyes sparkle. “Besides, I think it’s cool that the older students get worked up about their chicks also having the hots for me now.”
Tom was born for a life as a star – with his big mouth, his ambition and his angelic face. “Many [people] think I have my head in the clouds now because we’re famous”, he says. “But to be completely honest: I’ve always been exactly like I’m nowadays.” And then Tom grins – and one just has got to believe him.

My film: One of Tom’s favourite films is “Mr & Mrs Smith” with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. “I think she’s totally awesome.” [nb Assuming he refers to Angelina. Though it could also be translated as “I think they’re totally awesome”.]
My music: I like a lot but I hate “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston. This endless droning annoys the hell out of me.
My car: I like big cars. Therefore I’d like to have a hummer or a BMW 3 series convertible in my garage.
My animal: So far I don’t have a monkey but I’d like one as a pet. Unfortunately I don’t have the time.
My city: It’s a dream of mine to travel to Tokyo one day. It’s such a wicked city.
My idol: I love the music by German rapper Samy Deluxe. I think his songs are super.

Big background picture:A rare sight: Gustav [being] completely quiet and relaxing on the sofa
GUSTAV – THE SMALLEST ONE WITH THE BIGGEST GOB[/color][/b]
In the past everybody was taller than him. Gustav started drumming to assert himself and to finally be someone. Nowadays he’s the drummer of Tokio Hotel. And [he’s] the clown of the band. Here he tells [us] who he really is…
PAGE 13
Right, younger Gustav picture: Little Gustav
Middle, big picture: Typical Gustav – not five minutes pass without him making a joke[/i]
Gustav always liked making noise: “In primary school I was the smallest one with the biggest gob!” It made him aggressive that he was so small (today 1.68 metres). He had to assert himself, have the last laugh over everybody and had to release energy somewhere. Maybe that’s why Gustav started to drum. Maybe [it was] also because of the music that his father exposed the house to every now and then – songs by rock legends Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton or Peter Gabriel. Eventually little Gustav started to drum along underneath the dinner table. And his father took him to the music school in the neighbourhood because he didn’t stop. By now that was 12 years ago. Gustav plays the drums ever since. He also tried the guitar once “but I’ve got too crude mitts for that.” Gustav almost always wears a hat, especially when his hair grows longer. He’s got pretty thick hair that gets quite fair during summer time. “And big locks, if I’d let them grow.” He likes wearing jeans with polo shirts best – preferred colour [being] white. The Tokio Hotel drummer seems very grown up when he talks about himself. He looks the person opposite him into the eyes whereas his hands are playing around with objects that lie about or [his hands] just move around the table top in a fidgety way. Gustav is the beat that never stops. He gives rhythm to the band – and not only on stage. Gustav constantly drums: on the table top, an empty Red Bull can, preferably on himself though. In that case he uses his stomach, thigh or chest as a percussion instrument. [He is] a compact, moving beat, always [having] a comment on his lips, rarely in a bad mood. If the others are on the ropes, Gustav will cheer them up. However, he’s not always as confident as he presents himself. Like he was actually thinking about attending the Gymnasium [grammar school] after year 4 or year 6.
[nb After primary school, year 1 – 4, a student could choose whether to continue school by attending a Gymnasium (grammer school) and graduating after year 12 or 13 or attending a Sekundarschule aka Realschule (secondary school) and graduate after year 10. If a student decided to go to secondary school but noticed that you were doing well enough and maybe didn’t feel challenged enough, there was the possibility to still change to grammar school after year 6.]
“However, I didn’t dare to”, Gustav admits. “I think I was afraid of new people. [Afraid] that everybody looks at me. That I’m a stranger. I was always afraid of that.” Even though Gustav isn’t shy. Not at all. He’s a very open guy, approaches people, talks to them, jokes around. These days he attends a Wirtschaftsgymnasium [nb grammar school which places emphasis on economics, law, management studies etc].
It wasn’t too hard to start at the new school. A [female] friend started with him. Despite his success with Tokio Hotel, he wants to graduate in almost two years. And how are people at his school dealing with Gustav’s music career? “Most of them think it’s cool”, he says. Of course there are also people who aren’t as nice, “but I’ve learned to deal with it when somebody shouts across the schoolyard.” Since Tokio Hotel took the charts by storm with their song “Durch den Monsun” quite some things have changed in Gustav’s life. He finds it remarkable how many people suddenly got back in touch. “One has got to know who their friends are”, he explains. Gustav’s confidants are his best friend Alex and his sister Franziska. Both of them live in Madgeburg not far from the house Gustav and his parents live in. “Franziska is smaller than me”, he says, “but older – 25 years old.” In former days the siblings often “squabbled”, how he calls it. Nowadays Franziska makes him potato bakes or gives him advise – also with regards to girls. However, unfortunately it hasn’t quite worked out yet. Gustav was in love twice. However, one had a boyfriend and the other lived in a different town – that didn’t work anymore eventually. The drummer is single at the moment. He’d like to have a girlfriend but “she’d have to live with me being on the road constantly.” For Gustav straddles the divide between school and band, between exams and performances until graduation. To reach his goal: “It would be super cool if I could become a studio musician. Even though it’s of course my biggest dream that things with Georg, Bill and Tom and our band keep going on like that forever…”
That doesn’t leave any room for his hobbies: playing football, cycling or cooking. His specialties in the kitchen: Lasagne and Salmon-Cream bake – “though without salmon”. Because Gustav is allergic to fish. Also to pork. Also to strawberries. Also to house dust mites. Also to all sorts of grass and pollen. Gustav gets a rash if he gets too much of any of those [things]. Gustav: “I stand by it. Other people don’t have spots and still look ugly!”, he shouts with a grin and strikes a pose. It’s his goal to make a living with music. Ugly, as if! Singer Bill also thinks that Gustav would definitely have the best [looking] upper body of the band. “Drummers just have an advantage.” Gustav also thinks so. He flexes his muscles, makes another comment and everybody laughs…
Gustav is into:[/u]
My films: I like action films like “Armageddon” and “Mr & Mrs Smith” the most. I hate love sob stuff!
My idol: Lars Ulrich the drummer of the band Metallica. I’ve always been enthusiastic about him and [first name?] Collins.
My CDs: I like to listen to “Saint Anger” by Metallic, Michael Bublé for quiet moments and the band Slipknot.
My drinks: Besides Red Bull, I like hot chocolate. Either very cold or very hot. That’s to say that I hate lukewarm milk!
My food: I like self-made Lasagne the best and my sister’s potato bake.

MR COOL & MR CASUAL[/color][/b]
At first glance the guys from Tokio Hotel look as if they would play in four different bands. Every one of them has got their own style. There is Bill who could rival a punk rocker. Tom who is only into rap clothing. Georg who looks like Ville Valo from HIM sometimes. And Gustav, the casual one. Therefore everyone makes a dash for different clothes at the photo shooting in Munich. Gustav discovers his soft spot for hats and Georg dresses as elegant as an English gentleman. Tom [nb: It’s a typo and should say “Bill”.] is the boldest: he has deep-black eye make-up put on, grabs tons of silver jewellery. Only one [of them] does not like change at all – Tom. For him it’s: once a rapper, always a rapper.

And Tom (16) adds “In their ways people are just like their shoes.” Actually there is nothing the four guys like about their hometown. “There’s just nothing going on”, Tom continues grumbling. Although Madgeburg is not only a major city with its approximately 230,000 habitants but even the capital city of the [German] federal state of Saxony-Anhalt. The city on the Elbe is about one and a half hours away from Berlin. Compared to the metropolis with millions of inhabitants that is Berlin there is of course less going on in Magdeburg. “There’s always the same people jumping around at partys”, Tom says. His twin brother Bill (16) also finds shopping difficult: “There are no nice shops. Admittedly we’ve got big shopping centres but they don’t have any nice, little CD shops one could browse through. Or cool second-hand shops.” They also find going out difficult. “The city centre is a joke”, tells Bill. “There are only three cafés.” In the past they often went to the “Alex”. However, these days this is not possible anymore because they get recognized all the time. “One just isn’t undisturbed anymore”, says Tom. Although they even received the “celebrity-bonus”. Before their chart success the guys were not particularly welcome in the café because they were too young. “And now Tom even got a coffee for free”, Bill laughs. However, that does not matter anyway. For their favourite place is completely somewhere else: It is the beach bar, [situated] directly on the Elbe. Here they feel very comfortable. “The mood is totally cool there”, Tom raves. “We drink Red Bull and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. It’s really like a vacation.” So Magdeburg does not seem that sh*t after all then. “If one comes here they should go to the Hasselbachplatz”, ‘tour guide’ Georg says. “There are cafés and a dancing club. Apart from that one can also go to the ‘Prince-Club’, the ‘Timex’ or the ‘Factory’.” And there are also a few other places they like to hang out at. The cinema for example. The Cinemaxx at the Central Railway Station is the city’s only one. There they have seen ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ last time and they thought it was great. Not a surprise as all four of them totally fancy Angelina Jolie (30). Just around the corner is a McDonalds. Going there is not only a must after the cinema! That is to say that the Tokios almost only live on Fast Food. The twins’ menu: a Bigger Big Mäc, Chicken McNuggets with sweet’n’sour dip plus a vanilla milkshake.

However, there are a few places in their hometown Magdeburg that Tokio Hotel find great if they really think about it. Their absolute favourite place is their rehearsal room. The four guys invited BRAVO there to show where their songs are being created. The old factory building where the just about 20 square metres big rehearsal room is situated seems pretty run down at first glance. Plaster crumbles from the walls, the second floor is accessible with an ancient goods lift with iron doors – that is if the lift isn’t just about to get stuck again. [Walking] Through a grille door one gets to the most precious place! Ah, so this is where Tokio Hotel spend almost more time than in school. It feels a little like inside a prison. Pure chaos awaits once “guard” Tom unlocked [the door]. Rubbish everywhere: empty pizza boxes are lying around, plenty of boxes overflowing with paper, ancient water bottles with indefinable life forms splashing about are standing in the corner. And quite a niffy smell lingers all around. It looked pretty much the same one year ago when they had found this room after looking for a long time. “We totally put lots of work into it”, Bill tells. “We’ve been throwing everything out for four weeks.” A nightmare experience awaited the guys immediately as they moved in. “We put our stuff away and suddenly there was a power cut in the middle of the night”, Georg remembers. There was nobody else inside the old factory building except for the guys! “We couldn’t see each other”, Bill continues. “Therefore we tried to illuminate [the room] with our mobiles. And shouted down the whole building.” However, this experience didn’t stop Tokio Hotel from moving into the rehearsal room. “In the beginning the room still looked quite neat”, Gustav remembers. However, the four rockers changed that quickly. “Now it’s a total dump”, Bill regrets. “If you leave something lying around, it quickly piles up. And nobody clears anyway away.” Originally they also wanted to sleep over and have parties here – by now they only come here to rehearse. Despite the chaos drums, amps, bass and guitar still have got their space here. They have to shell out 140€ a month for the rehearsal room. That was quite a lump in the beginning. “Our parents and all of us pitched in!”, Bill tells. It paid off and by now Tokio Hotel are successful enough so that they could be looking for a better rehearsal room. However, the four of them don’t intend to do so for now. Nevertheless, Bill and Tom are thinking about moving away from Magdeburg. They don’t know yet where to. Georg definitely wants to stay in his hometown. Gustav isn’t that sure but he also says: “All of our friends are here after all…”

OUT OF THE RAIN INTO THE CHARTS[/color][/b]
[nb Also a little wordplay referring to the phrase “Vom Regen in die Traufe” which is “Out of the frying pan into the fire” in English. It works better in German because it includes “Regen = rain” which relates much more to Durch den Monsun than a frying pan. XD]
The boys from Tokio Hotel had to fight their way through the wilderness being soaking wet for their first video for “Durch den Monsun”. BRAVO was at the video shoot for you.

Water everywhere: inside the ears, nose, eyes. The soaking wet clothes stick to the boys from Tokio Hotel’s bodies. However, who wants to have a nice video also has to suffer [for it]. Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav shot their super video for “Durch den Monsun” in Leuenberg nearby Berlin – including a whole lot of water. As the song was named after the intense tropical rain after all. 25 members of staff pegged away at the shoot, the boys had to give everything for 15 hours. Especially Bill had a hard time. He had to dangle from an iron bar over the “Langen See” for one scene. For another one he had to put his head into a fish bowl with freezing water. However, luckily there was a make-up artist on set who took care of fixing make-up and hair again afterwards. “It was super exhausting but [it] was also loads of fun”, Bill tells. In between there were Schnitzel and fries, a great deal of sweets and fruit for [providing] enough energy. What Bill was not too impressed with: “The smell! We shot next to a boar herd, they smelled horrendously!” Therefore, the boys would rather shoot their next videos in a city. “An old factory building or even a location in Tokyo would be awesome.” Now everybody is eagerly looking forward to the video for the next Single “Schrei”.

FOR YOU BILL REVEALS: THAT’S WHAT OUR SONGS MEAN
Singer Bill wrote almost all the songs by himself – now he tells you what he wants to say to you with his songs…
Bill picture: Bill (16) already started writing songs when [he was] nine years old. He is very proud of the first album by Tokio Hotel[/i]
1. Schrei
Due to our extraordinary styling Tom and I stand out a lot at school and get dissed by teachers and other students. “Schrei” talks about how we just don’t want to fit in but always speak our minds. The song talks about the frustration that even we have to fit in and allow [others] to influence us in every day life sometimes. That’s not what we want at all. Therefore one just has to scream to vent all of the frustration sometimes. When we perform the song live, we can really release aggression well. Then it’s like an act of liberation. “Schrei” is also about ‘staying true to myself’ which is important especially in our situation. In our band there’s a simple solution: If someone starts to be out of touch with the real world, he’ll get a smack in the mouth.
2. Durch den Monsun
Shortly after we got to know that a single by us will be released we and our producers thought about what song would be most suitable. “Durch den Monsun” is a mid-tempo number that starts out pretty quietly and gets louder and harder towards the end. Therefore, we thought that the song reflects the album quite well. After all we’ve got everything from hard numbers to ballads on there. “Durch den Monsun” talks about immersing into another world when you’re experiencing heartache. I wrote the most important lines of the songs after the break-up with my then-girlfriend. Afterwards I realised that it was a mistake and that I miss her. “Durch den Monsun” talks about finding a lost love again in another world. And to incur a great number of risks and adventures there just to see this person. When Tom, Georg, Gustav and I got to know that the song was number one we freaked out. We were in the middle of an interview, jumped into the air and screamed. We just couldn’t believe it. We partied hard and raised our glasses with our producers. I would’ve never dared to hope for it…
3. Leb die Sekunde
I wrote “Leb die Sekunde” when I was ten years old. The song was written on a weekend when I was sitting at home and nothing happened. I’m a person who always needs to be doing something. I can’t be lying in bed all day and not do anything. I never want to miss anything and want to be aware of everything around me. And try to make the most of every moment and to experience very much. At the moment it’s not very difficult: we enjoy every second of our success. Many teens don’t experience as much as we do at the moment in all their lives. We see many different cities and have lots of fun. However, it’s not always easy to live the second. If you happen to be sad, listen to this song and remind yourself that one should live every second. By the way, there’s a second that I would’ve liked to kept hold of forever: The second we walked on stage at “Stars For Free” in Magdeburg and 75,000 people screamed. It was already dark when we played and it was an amazing feeling to see all those people and hear them sing along to our song.
4. Rette mich
“Rette mich” is the only real ballad on the album and it’s about heart ache. I’ve already experienced it a few times that one feels as left alone as in this sad song. And that one goes back to the places they’ve been to together once before, a shared hiding place, and then it hurts to be there without the other person. One can feel like this being in a relationship when they’re not getting along anymore. Or if the girlfriend broke it of. There’ll probably be a few girls in Magdeburg thinking that I’m singing the song about them. However, I’m still quite young and haven’t been in that many intense relationships. Therefore it really isn’t about a particular girl.
5. Freunde bleiben
I’m singing the line “Lieber tot als Bill” (“[I’d] Rather be dead than [being] Bill”) in “Freunde bleiben” – nobody has ever said something like that to my face but we just thought the phrase was funny. However, probably many [people] are thinking it. It’s also the same for me with a few people. I love this song because I think superficial, dishonest friendships like this totally suck. I find it totally ridiculous if there are people that absolutely can’t stand each other and only say “hi” out of courtesy. The song is addressed to a few guys in Magdeburg that we don’t like at all and who we’ve always wanted to tell just that. Actually it’s also cool that there are those kinds of people. After all I like to argue and discuss and my brother Tom does too. We just very much like to provoke others. And we’re very happy if we can get annoyed by suck-ups. Tom and I get each other worked up if they’ve done something we thought was particularly impudent.
6. Ich bin nich’ ich
“Ich bin nich’ ich” is a song about broken hearts. It’s about being in love with someone that you can’t have or that can’t be with you. Therefore one feels lonely, is out of it and changes as a result. I’ve also been in a situation like this already. I felt so very down back then because I didn’t know when I would see the girl I was in love with again. Then [it would happen that] I was talking to friends and didn’t take anything in because only this girl was on my mind. The others in the band can’t emphasise with this feeling. I’m the only one of us who has already really been in love. By the way, I’ve never received a farewell letter like the one in the lyrics of the song before. One only ever writes texts now.
7. Wenn nichts mehr geht
The song talks about what happens after death. Many are saying that I’m way too young to be thinking about it. I’m also not afraid of dying. However, sometimes everybody probably thinks about what it’s like after death and what’ll happen then. We’re lucky enough that no-one in our family has died so far and also no-one I was really close to. Therefore we, in the band, are thinking about our pets when we’re performing this song. It’s so bad if pets die. I adore dogs. My world would come crashing down if my dog died. My Doberman-Labrador crossbreed “Scotty” is six years old. We got him from the animal shelter aged one. He’s so cute. I’m very sad that we can’t see him as often anymore now.
8. Lass uns hier raus
“Lass uns hier raus“ describes our dream of making it big. The song was developed in the middle of the production process, meaning just [at a time] when we were hoping very much that we’ll make it with our music. Back then we were just so happy already to being able to work together with producers and were asking ourselves: Gosh, what will it be like if we really release something? However, we’re not yet feeling like super stars like it says in the lyrics. We’re still the ones we were before. We just adore making music and we’re incredibly happy if people like it. Another thing about the line: “Wir sind ‘ne Boyband und gecastet sind wir auch” (“We’re a boy band and also have been casted”). It’s just something that we’re always getting accused of. We’re making fun of it in the song.
9. Gegen meinen Willen
We wrote this song because we thought that the divorce of parents is a very important matter that should be sung about. We were surprised that no-one had already done it before us. There are more and more children of divorced parents especially in our generation, also amongst school mates and so on. Many don’t dare to talk about it and to say how they feel about it, therefore we want to express those emotions. Even though with us it wasn’t like I’m singing in this song. Our parents were totally considerate of us and broke it to us very gently that they’d separate. One really couldn’t have done it in a better way. Also I definitely don’t want to say that all parents should stay together only for the children’s sake. However, they should pay attention that the children are doing well with it. Father and mother should take care of the child. Nowadays, Tom and I don’t suffer from our parents’ divorce anymore. We’re in touch with both sides and it’s alright the way it is. Nevertheless, we’re still a family even though our parents aren’t together anymore.
10. Jung und nicht mehr jugendfrei
Everybody that has been hanging out with us knows what we’re talking about in this song. Our managers and people looking after us have to suffer quite a bit. We just always do what we want and won’t be told anything. One can already tell from our attitude and the way we look. Sometimes that’s just quite x-rated. Most people that are on the road with us for two days have to go for treatment for two weeks afterwards…
