Claire's note: PETA and animal rights invokes strong reactions. Please be polite when discussing. After watching Tokio Hotel's recent DVD, Caught on Camera, two things became very clear to me—the boys in Tokio Hotel are hilarious, and they really care about animals. When the subject of their rather elaborate entrance to MTV's Video Music Awards on a monster truck came up, the boys took the opportunity to mention how they felt about rapper T-Pain arriving on an elephant.
Tokio Hotel's vocalist (with the best hair ever, I might add), Bill Kaulitz, said "it was sheer cruelty—it was that." Bill's brother and Tokio Hotel's guitarist, Tom, followed Bill's thought by saying "I hate zoos and circuses. People shouldn't take their children to either one." We couldn't agree more, boys! Circuses are certainly no fun for animals, as they are confined to small enclosures, forced to do tricks, beaten with sharp metal bullhooks, and unable to live a normal life. Thankfully, there are quite a few all human circuses out there, which are a very entertaining alternative!
If you haven't seen the DVD for yourself, you can purchase it here! SourceIMO? PETA jumped the gun a bit. LOL. I mean, clearly Bill and Tom adore animals and like most sensible people are against any kind of cruelty or discomfort for animals. But they eat meat. And, uh, Bill has 57628467265 expensive leather jackets. LOL. Still, I like to read positive things! Claire

LOL! I think Bill owns nearly one of every leather jacket in the world now doesn't he? He should share them out. Looks like they have PETA on their side now... until Bill wears something to change their minds XD
I have to agree with the circus thing though... I hate them, I refuse to go to them when they ever come to town. I like my local Safari Park though ;D the giraffes are cool!

I totally agree with you Claire, lol. I mean, being into animal rights myself, I just died hearing Tom talk about his concern for animal welfare. So sweet.
But yeah, they eat meat and wear leather. And basically, the eating of meat is responsible for the largest scale of animal cruelty globally - so not exactly great ambassadors for PETA. Lol.
But, having said that, PETA do like to give credit where credit is due. And it is nice to see young people expressing concerns for animals.
I'm not gonna knock them for saying nice things about the guys, lol.
*edit*
Of course, a BIG plus is that loads of young people are involved with PETA - so good exposure for the band, lmao. Nice one PETA! Danke!

It's really nice of them to give them credit for it like Liz said even though they are not the perfect PETA ambassadors. Still, they do care for animal rights to some degree and I like it that they picked up on it. Surely whoever wrote that must've picked up on the leather jackets etc. I mean it sounds like she watched the whole DVD and maybe even knows TH beyond it but still decided to mention it because I think it was a good thing for them to say so why not mention it. It's great that it comes from PETA. Everything that was said about the band sounds really positive.
Oh, and I was glancing at a Bravo article from 2005 last night and they were asked what would make them really angry and Georg said animal cruelty and Bill and Tom joined in saying how unfair it was on animals and Tom said how he'd wish he could be vegetarian.

It's really conciderate that they should pick that up, and have those thoughts, but I hve to say a monster truck isn't the most eco-friendly vehicle on earth But still, as I said, it's wonderful to have animal-loving idols.

even though they aren't vegetarians i'm an animal lover i tried going vegetarian but it didn't work cause i don't like any vegetables! I went vegetarian for a week...but then my mum cooked my favourite type of chicken and I just couldn't resist it. BUT I only eat chicken, sausages, and minted lamb grills. If the chicken is on a bone, then I don't eat it. So, I'm more vegetarian then...not?
And we all love animal lovers, eh?

More a vegetarian... haha. I wouldn't say there's such a thing as more or less.
Anyway, we had this kind of discussion before so moving on... ;D
I've read an article (Yam) from 2005 today and it made me laugh so much. I looove those things. Always entertaining. However, one of the questions was what mischievous stuff they were up to as kids and Bill talked about how his mate (I wonder if it was Andreas *lol*) stole a mouse from a pet shop once. He wanted to set it free outside but Bill felt sorry for it and took it home. They named it Swartie and Tom and him had it over two years.
